Wednesdays 1pm "Soul Food" Present Series "Doctor's Appointment" - Luke's Gospel
The Scots' Church Melbourne, Corner Collins and Russell St, (Diagonally opposite the Grand Hyatt)
“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11: 28 and 29)
Every Wednesday at 1 pm there’s a half-hour service for anyone who wishes to attend. The numbers vary (sometimes 20 – 30, sometimes lots more for special services), but what a lovely, supportive fellowship this is. Some enjoy the organ music and the hymn singing, some appreciate the contemplative atmosphere of our lovely sanctuary, some use it as a mid-week opportunity to “recharge their batteries”, some have grown to enjoy each others company, but all come in an attitude of worship – to give thanks, to look for help and guidance and to pray.
Once a month we have some very special services……
- Special guest speakers telling us about missionary work in Australia or overseas
- The Grand Final Footy Service in September
- Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper (at Scots’ Church Communion Season)
More usually, we’re following a theme in the services, such as these ones recently –
- Foundations for Life – The Apostles’ Creed
- God’s ‘E-mail’ - Ephesians
- The Seven Deadly Sins
- First things First – Genesis
- Doctor's Appointment - A series on the gospel of Luke
We’re always open to new ideas about how we can encounter God together, and support each other on our spiritual journey. One recent development has been the chance to enjoy tea/coffee and cake at the back of the church immediately after the service. Not everyone can manage to stay, some have to return to their place of work, but those who do have sensed a real shift in our sense of fellowship and belonging.
We have no idea who might be reading this – Obviously! But whoever you are, if you’re anywhere near the corner of Collins and Russell Streets on a Wednesday at 1 pm, we’d love you to join us!
|But I haven’t been to church for years||everyone's welcome
|I’ve only got 10 minutes!||feel free to "pop in and out"|
|I don’t know the first thing about Jesus||we’ll spend time with you|
|I’m going through a bad patch||we care for others
|I’m not religious||the door is open to all
|I’ve still got a few things to sort out||come as you are|
Thanks for taking time to read this, and wishing you God’s richest blessing,
David – Minister for the Wednesday ServiceListen to previous Wednesday Midweek sermons
