Music lovers are invited to come together for an afternoon of exceptional music and to support a desperate cause. Laments of Mesopotamia, a concert featuring traditional music from the earthquake-devastated cities of Turkey and Syria. This unique musical event will demonstrate a blend of traditional Middle Eastern instruments and classical Western instruments, arranged by prominent musician, Roger Young (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra – violin), and conducted by Elizabeth Anderson (Australian Chamber Choir).

The concert will feature singer of Turkish and Middle Eastern music, Arzu Yuvarlak-Danaher, and choral accompaniments, arranged by Melbourne composer Vaughan McAlley, will be performed by the renowned Scots’ Choir. Additionally, prominent musicians Philip Arkinstall (MSO – clarinet), Işın Çakmakcıoğlu (MSO – violin), John Arcaro (MSO – percussion), Benjamin Hanlon (MSO – double-bass), Michael Loftus-Hills (piano), Timothy Veldman (viola), Alexandra Partridge (cello), and Bulent Sabah (keman) will feature in the performance along with an array of musicians specialising in middle eastern and Turkish musical instruments.

Organized by Arzu Yuvarlak-Danaher, the event is aimed at promoting and preserving the traditional music of the Mesopotamia region, which encompasses parts of modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. The concert will be an opportunity for the public to discover and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the region.

All proceeds from the concert will go towards supporting the victims of the earthquakes in the hardest hit region of Turkey, Hatay, which is also the birthplace of Arzu Yuvarlak-Danaher.
