It’s a prayer for God’s glory, for the preservation of his disciples and their message, and for the future love and unity of those (like us) who would one day believe. The prayer presents us with both a challenge and a hope for the future.

    What should we expect of the promised Holy Spirit? While some today will claim a ‘direct line’ to God’s revelation, that’s a promise made specifically to the original Apostles. We should instead expect deep conviction as the Spirit turns our hearts to Jesus.

    What’s the true mark of success in the Christian life? Eleven times in this passage, Jesus calls on his eleven remaining disciples to remain, or abide, in him. In other words, keeping on trusting Jesus until the end is the definition of Christian ‘success.’ We’re urged to do the same!
