Jesus reminds us that we should live in the light of that certain uncertainty, always with an eye on eternal things above. It’s a prayer for God’s glory, for the preservation of his disciples and their message, and for the future love and unity of those (like us) who would one day believe. The prayer presents us with both a challenge and a hope for the future.
