Jesus has been dressed as a mock-King before his crucifixion, but now, at the point of his resurrection, the truth of his Kingship is on display.

    Abuse of Jesus is nothing new. The crowds around him laughed, and said “If he’s the anointed King he thinks he is, why doesn’t God save him?” True – it’s hard to discern a real King in the midst of such apparent humiliation. Only one man could see it clearly – the criminal on the cross right beside him. The reality is, this is a Kingdom of forgiveness, not payback; and we’re called to join it.

    The people, the powers, and the law discard Jesus and condemn him to death. They dispense with the gift of life. But Jesus is actually delivering himself over to death for the sake of humankind, trusting that Father will restore him. Jesus Christ, the gift of life, is discarded and gives us a glimpse of restoration.
