Paul opens his letter to the Philippians with thanksgiving – and he’s thankful for a very specific thing. He doesn’t see the Christians in Philippi as his customers or clients; they’re not an audience at a performance. Instead, they have shown themselves to be his partners in the gospel. In other words, they join him in the risk and the cost of proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ, the founder and foundation of our faith.
