As Stephen continues his defence speech to the Sanhedrin Council, he points out that the nation of Israel has a poor track record when it comes to listening to the ones God sends to rescue them – as shown in the story of Moses, their great lawgiver. “It’s one thing to pay lip service to God’s law and another thing altogether to serve him from the heart,” says Stephen – as shown by Israel’s refusal to pay attention to the Spirit or the Messiah.
